5 Steps to Get Out of Overwhelm Quickly

    Do you ever have those moments where it just feels like absolutely everything is going wrong at the same time? It doesn't seem like you can buy a win. And once one thing goes wrong, the next thing goes wrong and before you know it everything is piled up and you are in complete overwhelm. Well, it does happen to all of us and so I've got some tips and techniques that you might want to try the next time the world seems to be conspiring against you. The first thing you want to do is focus on your most critical issue and triage that thing until it is resolved. It's amazing how much comfort you can get knowing that the biggest thing is at least fixed or on it's way to being fixed. The next thing you want to do is to delegate. I know that your inner control freak is like ughhh I need to do everything right now because everything is wrong. But delegate to those that you trust and seek advice from those that you respect. This is not the time to stay in your head and then hope everything will pass. Get help and get help fast. The next thing you want to do is make sure that you have perspective. In the absence of data, we always assume the worst. And then once we finally know what's going on its like 'oh. Well that wasn't so bad.' So make sure that you're not making more out of things than they really need to be and that you've got the right perspective around whatever issues you're facing. The next thing you need to do is find a win. I don't care how small it is just find something that you can hang on to and say 'okay, I don't suck. I can do this. Here's my win.' and then go find another one. And then last, breathe! I know this is the last thing you want to hear is I need to relax, but you do. Because if you're running around stressed and you're feeling anxious and you're just in your head spinning; you're not doing anybody any good. Chances are good you're going to make bad decisions. So do your best to make sure that you are in the right frame of mind and that you really are coming from a place of calm. Even though things are going crazy. Whenever you're in overwhelm and you really need to just catch a break hopefully some of these five tips might get you back on the right track.
