    LEGAL COUNSEL. ### THE SANTA MARIA POLICE DEPARTMENT IS DOUBLING DOWN ON ITS SAFETY ENFORCEMENT FOR BICYCLISTS AND PEDESTRIANS. ADDITIONAL OFFICERS WERE PATROLLING PARTS OF THE CITY WHERE BIKE AND PEDESTRIAN COLLISIONS ARE MORE FREQUENT. OFFICERS STOPPED 38 BICYCLISTS AND PEDESTRIANS TODAY... AND ISSUED SEVEN CITATIONS. THE FUNDING FOR THE OPERATION WAS PROVIDED IN PART BY A GRANT OF 385-THOUSAND DOLLARS FROM THE CALIFORNI OFFICE OF TRAFFIC SAFETY. OFFICERS ON DUTY WERE LOOKING FOR DRIVERS MAKI TRAFFIC VIOLATIONS, SUCH AS SPEEDING AND NOT STOPPING FOR PEDESTRIANS CROSSING THE STREET. "YOU NEED TO PAY ATTENTION TO WHAT YOU'RE DOING DRIVERS NEED TO PAY ATTENTION TO THE PEDESTRIANS , PEDESTRIANS NEED TO PAY ATTENTION TO THE VEHICLES ON THE ROAD WAY AND GIVE EACH OTHER SPACE IF YOU DO THAT THEN WE WON'T HA ANY TYPE OF COLLISIONS" THE SANTA MARIA POLICE DEPARTMENT HAS INVESTIGATED TOTAL OF 228 INJURY COLLISIONS. SIX OF THOSE WERE CONSIDERED FATALITIES. THIS OPERATION IS JUST ONE OF FIVE HAPPENING IN SANTA MARIA OVER THE NEX
