Hi, my name is Monika. In the next few minutes I'm going to give you some
advice on how to apply for an undergraduate course here at the Aberystwyth University. Before
starting the application you will need to decide which course of courses you're
interested in applying for. This could be one of the three or four subjects that
you are currently studying at school or college, that you enjoy and are
considering continuing at degree level - like art, geography or politics.
Or you may want to study something completely new. The good news is that we
offer a broad range of single honour courses here at Aberystwyth that you may
want to study or, if you can't pick between two courses, we even offer a
selection of joint honor or major minor courses that let you experience the best
of two disciplines. An interesting one, for example, is a joint honours in Drama
and Maths. You can find out the courses we offer in much more detail at: When you have decided on the course you are interested in you
next need to check the entry requirements on our website, the UCAS
website or a university Prospectus. It's important you do this so you know what
grades or Tariff points you need and if it's achievable for you. The slightly
daunting but also exciting part of the process comes next:
making the application and the UCAS website. The first part of the application will
require your personal details so it will ask you for your name, contact details
and a bit about your employment history. The second and main part is your
personal statement this is the opportunity for you to say what you want
to study at university and highlight the skills or experience you have that make
a good candidate. The personal statement can be tricky but your teacher or
advisor should be able to help you with this and ensure you meet the main UCAS
deadline 15th January. You'll probably be asked to do this before 15th
January, though, as your teacher will need time to add their own reference on to
your application. Once you have done this you can submit the application and the
University will contact to ASAP with a decision.
You can find out the status of the application by checking
UCAS Track regularly this also lets you respond to any offers you receive if
you're successful and accept an offer you will be invited to a Visiting Day
which will give you an opportunity to see Aberystwyth if you haven't
already, meet with staff and students, explore the University and take in the
surrounding area too. So, that's it for this talk I hope this has helped.
Remember to check our course pages at Keep an eye
on our Facebook and Twitter pages for hints and tips on the application
process and Student Life. Feel free to ask any questions on our Live Chat too.
Thanks for listening and good luck with the application
