The Scholars' Avenue met up with Mr. S. S. Jha, Head of The Security Section to inquire about the various measures taken by his team to ensure safe dwelling in the campus. Here are the few things about the security section and facilities that are available and that you might have missed. >How watched are we? CCTV cameras have been already installed at the gates and the cross sections of campus. The footages will be held with the security section and will be used in cases of thefts and complaints regarding specific incidents. After installations, it has become easier to track down incidents of stolen cycles and it has empowered the security section to direct efforts in the proper direction. Halls and other common areas have already equipped with these cameras and the process of installing more is still going on. So if you're planning on something notorious, now is not the right time. >What about the vehicle filled KGP? Almost got crushed by some random speeding car on campus? Serious planning is going on for vehicle tracking and regulating in the campus. Passes are being issued to the vehicle that does not belong to residents of the campus and the validity is reduced to 3 months. Without renewal of the pass, outsiders wouldn't be let in. Given the CCTVs at gates, trespassers better stick to it. >What if I'm in an emergency? How do I get help? In what we felt like one of the most useful initiative, The Security Section has formed a Quick Relief Team (QRTs). The security professionals will be strolling the campus all the time to get to you within a few minutes of your call for help. Save the numbers of QRTs- 03222-281002, 03222-281003 >Are there any special provisions for Women's Safety? Not yet but on the way. Special QRTs will be made for the safety of girls in the campus. This would imply access to security in girls halls 25*7. This will also mean that female student will be more free and comfortable to contact the security in times of need. The women security professionals will be specially trained to cater to the female population of the campus. >I don't feel safe due to some individuals on campus. Can I have access to security? The Security Section Head told us that they consider every case individualistically and try to reach out to students in whatever ways possible. If any student believes that his security is threatened by anyone, he/she can report it to the security section and they will provide whatever assistance necessary if the threat is legitimate. The Scholars' Avenue will stay in touch with The Security Section to convey the needs of the student community and know about the status of various projects that they have taken up. We'll be glad to take up suggestions from you.
