    AFTER THREE DOWNTOWN
    BUSINESSES WERE TOLD THIER
    LEASES WILL NOT BE RENEWED BY
    THE ERIE DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT
    CORPORATION... BUT NOW... THE
    CITY IS STEPPING IN TO TRY AND
    HELP KEEP THEM IN THE AREA.
    FRIDAY REPRESENTATIVES MET
    WITH THE MAYOR AND OTHER CITY
    OFFICIALS. FOLLOWING THE
    DISCUSSIO THE CITY
    DECIDED THE DEPARTMENT OF
    ECONOMIC AND COMMUNITY
    DEVELOPMENT WILL HELP THE
    BUSINESSES FORCED TO MOVE
    BECAUSE C IS NOT
    RENEWING THEIR LEASES.
    "They're successful businesses
    and we need that downtown we
    need that commitment from the
    small business owner and so
    thats our job to try and help
    them land on their feet
    again." AFTER HEARING THE NEWS
    CITY OFFICIALS SAY NOT ONLY
    DID THEY REACH OUT TO LOCAL
    REALTORS BUT ALSO TO THE
    BUSINESS OWNERS AS WELL. "We
    are being proactive. As soon
    as we heard about this within
    an hour or so we reached out
    to the buisnesses and invited
    to come in and talk with us.
    We want them to know they're
    important to us and we are on
    this." AS THE CITY LOOKS TO
    HELP THESE BUSINESSES MOVE
    FORWARD, THE MAYOR WANTS TO
    MAKE SURE THEY REMAIN
    DOWNTOWN... AND REMAIN
    SUCCESSFUL. JS "Its extremely
    important to me and my
    adminstration. We want to help
    them grow and find them a
    great location if they have to
    move, but we want it to be here
    right in the downtown. And I
    can tell you I did go to lunch
    to one of those today and it
    was a great crowd and a lot of
    very supportive people here in
    Erie." CITY OFFICIALS WENT ON
    TO SAY THEY WILL BE MEETING
    WITH THE BUSINESS OWNERS ON
    TUESDAY.
